Is tea versus coffee even a legitimate match up? Both are stellar in their own right, so this actually isn’t going to be about which is better than the other.
My Love, My Lifeline, Coffee.
In Vancouver, B.C., I had the pleasure of trying this lavender dark chocolate cup of pure bliss. Prior to this taste bud alteration, I simply stayed with black coffee. Nothing fancy, nothing more. This detail though! There’s thought that has been put behind the flavoring and the presentation. I can still remember thinking this was too beautiful to even sip, let alone drink.
Caffeine is amazing for my well-being. Some people are incredibly sensitive to caffeine because it upsets their stomach. Or if they drink coffee too late in the day they’ll never sleep. Thankfully, I am not one of these people. I can drink coffee all day long, as long as I’m staying hydrated on some level.
Coffee helps to clear my head in the morning and get me focused on what I need to get done. Honestly, there was a time in my life where I cut coffee out for two whole years. Why? Looking back I can’t tell you if I saw positive results from that experience. It’s all very foggy from the lack of espresso.
To Unwind, Relax, and Bubble Bath: Tea.
On the other hand, as much of a coffee snob as I am, I like to mix in tea from time to time. During that awful phase in life where I stranded coffee, I replaced tea as my morning go to. Occasionally, I still reach for the tea bags.
In college, my roommate worked for Pete’s. This was a new concept for me, in large part because Starbucks was the only coffee shop I was frequently and their tea leaves little to the imagination. So when she brought home Peppermint tea from Pete’s, I instantly was on board with Team Tea.
Sometimes in life you just need to cozy up with your favorite blanket, marathon the daylight out of a TV series, all the while sipping a hot cup of tea.
The best mornings are the lazy ones, where outside there’s a low layer of fog hanging in the air. You’re wearing fuzzy socks and your softest pajamas, sipping your favorite cup of tea. It’s a zen that you just can’t recreate with coffee, although I try. Every time.
Treat Yourself
One of my favorite phrases is “treat yourself”. Meaning, do what makes you happy. If you want to drink an entire pot of coffee while binge watching Orange is the New Black, you go Glenn Coco.
If your idea of a perfect morning is nearly burying yourself in blankets and pillow with hot tea- that sounds like a plan I would happily hop on board for.
You do you. Treat yourself to your caffeine fix of choice.
